Mapserver Training.



Objective:

  • To create Wiki pages.
  • To generate & display basic Map Data
  • To install and upgrade tikiwiki

Activities:

  • The participants will be required to create wiki pages using wiki syntax.
  • Upload maps into server using winscp.
  • Creating Mapfiles.
  • Upgrade tikiwiki version.
  • Troubleshoot mapserver problems.

Recommended Pre-requisites

  • The ability to perform basic file management and editing tasks using the Linux file system.
  • Trainees must have some sort of GIS skills and working for a GIS department to part take in this training.

Requirements

  • The participants will have to bring their own computer during the course
  • Course Duration:3-5 days

Module 1

Mapserver Introduction

Objective:
  • Understand what the mapserver is.
  • Registering.
  • Know how to upload images, files and maps and to display it on a wiki page.
  • Editing Wiki pages.

Module 2

Generating & Displaying Basic Map Data

Objective:
  • Defining mapfiles
  • Know how to create mapfiles.
  • MapServer Layer Subclassing
  • Specifying Class Information
  • Feature Sizing

Optional Training (Only to Administrators)

Recommended Pre-requisites

  • Trainee(s) to have administrator priviledges on the mapserver.

Requirements

Duration: 8-10 days

Module 3

Tikiwiki Installation and Upgrade, Mysql Installation.

Objective:
  • Learn how to install tikiwiki.
  • Mysql installation
  • Learn how to upgrade tikiwiki remotely from a windows machine.
  • Learn how to reconfigure Kamap after an upgrade.
  • Upload large mapfiles into the server using winscp (if uploading files from window environment) or directly to server from any media.
