Image Backdrop Training
Objective
To be able to geo reference images and produce map backdrops
Open backdrops in Mapinfo and perform basic digitising
Activities
The participants will be required to:
1.Scan historical maps or aerial photographs
2.Perform image rectification on the trainers instruction
Recommendations
Class size: 15
It is recommended that the trainees must have some knowledge on how to work with the computer.

The participants will have to bring their own computer during the course

Modules
Module 1
Scanning Aerial Photographs and Historical maps
Objective:
1.To know how to operate the scanner software by adjusting the colour and the resolution setting
2.To understand about resizing images
3.To understand the appropriate resolution of the image that can be used in a GIS environment
4.To understand the appropriate image extension that can be exported and used in the GIS environment
Module 2
Georeferencing Images
Objective:
1.To know how to import and export images using Erdas
2.To understand the different types of model used to rectify the images
3.To Understand the errors associated with rectification
4.To be able to resample images and identify errors
Module 3
Utilising a GIS Backdrop
Objective:
1.To know how to open a Backdrop in Mapinfo or ArcGIS
2.To understand the usage of a backdrop
3.To know how to utilise the GIS tool to detect changes within the image backdrops
