GPS Training



Objective:

To operate GPS in the field.
To download data from the GPS and edit the data in a GIS environment

Activities

The participants will be required to
1.Use the GPS to capture point and line elements
2.Perform Data processing in the office

Recommendations

Class size: 10 - 15 People
It is recommended that the trainees must have some knowledge on how to work with the computer.

Requirements


The participants will have to bring their own computer during the course

Course Duration

Modules

Module 1

Theory of GPS
Objective:

1.To understand what is a GPS and how it works
2.To understand what are the main types of projection and the standard GPS projection
3.To understand what is triangulation and how a position is determined by a GPS
4.To understand what is differential GPS and how it works

Module 2

Using a GPS
Objective:

1.To know how to work with the GPS
2.To understand the main GPS software
3.To know how to capture a point and line element

Module 3

Data Capture
Objective:

1.To know how to operate a GPS in the field
2.To understand relationship between a handheld GPS and a base station
3.To understand the GPS software and how to navigate between the different menus in the software.

Module 4

Post Processing
Objective:

1.To know how to download data from the GPS using Pathfinder office software
2.To know the steps to differential corrections and export options in Pathfinder ofice
3.To know how to edit raw GPS data in a GIS environment
