The Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacificexternal link aims to co-ordinate energy work programmes and projects in the Pacific.

Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific (CROP) Energy Working Group (EWG)

Energy is cross sectoral and as such is of interest and relevance to a number of CROP organisations, donors as well as other regional organisations and agencies hence, the need for effective coordination.

The purpose of the CROP-EWG is to ensure that regional energy related programmes are planned, implemented and coordinated through an integrated and multi-stakeholder approach. In undertaking this responsibility the CROP-EWG is guided primarily by the Pacific Islands Regional Energy Policy (PIEP) and other regionally endorsed policies and strategies.

Recent activities of the EWG were:
• Advisory role towards the New York based Pacific Islands missions for the CSD14 and 15 process; and
• Organisation of the Pacific Energy Ministers and Regional Energy Officials Meetings

Current Core Members are:
• Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS)
• Pacific Power Association (PPA)
• Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) – (Chair)
• Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP)
• United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
• University of the South Pacific (USP)

Observers
• Greenpeace
• Pacific Concerns Resource Centre (PCRC)
• World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)
• Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP)
• World Conservation Union (IUCN)
• EU-ACP Renewable Energy Programme (REP-5)

Note that as appropriate other organisations and agencies may be co-opted and or invited to participate in the EWG.
